ABOUT:
I've been buying, selling, collecting, restoring, and archiving VHS for over 20 years now and I will be the first to tell you that buying "Graded VHS Tapes" is the biggest waste of money you'll ever come across. Don't get wrong, when it comes to trading cards, comics, magazines, autographed photos & memorabilia... buying, or having something professionally graded can be a great way to validate what you have as well as add to the value of the item; however, when it comes to playable media (ex. DVD, BluRay, VHS...) it's really just pointless. The grading process for VHS tapes only covers the condition of the slipcover and shrink wrap. As for the condition of the tape itself, it's playability, and audio/video quality... you're completely in the dark! In fact, new/sealed tapes are just as capable of being taken over by mold than any other VHS tape. Not to mention, people have been swapping out tapes and re-sealing them since the 1980s.
Ok, you're probably thinking... but, I saw that one graded copy of Terminator sell for like $89,000! And, what about all of these $3-$5,000 graded tapes listed on eBay? Well, there's actually collectors of just graded anything. In fact, it's a whole market and trend all to itself. Physical NFT's if you will. And as for those internet breaking tales of $100,000 VHS tapes.... Yeah, they are usually just donated by the grading companies to museums or archives at an estimated donation value of whatever the hell they want to say it's worth.
Now, all of that being said... Those sealed, graded tapes in their little capsules are cool as fu*k looking! Am I right?
So, being the gnarly people that we are... we sought out and purchased a bunch of new old stock sealed VHS tapes. We bought them directly from the distributors warehouse, so they don't have price stickers and blockbuster video swag all over them, and then we professionally encapsulated them in some of the nicest, highest quality acrylic display cases currently being made (Courtesy of BSA Acrylics), and now we have them up for sale at a reasonable price for a horror VHS tape!
That's right... impress your friends with really nice new/sealed VHS displays that are 100% real... just for a lot less money that you would pay for a graded one. And hey.. if you want to get it graded, go for it. If you want my staff and I to grade it for you and add a label displaying that grade on the display... we are more than knowledgeable enough to do so. But, the most important thing is making cool VHS easily accessible to the fans of cool VHS. VHS will NEVER die! Happy Shopping!
